I had a gum graft yesterday due to a receding gumline on two adjacent teeth. This was apparently caused because I didn't have a certain type of gum tissue where it receded. Anyway, the fix was to cut some tissue from the roof of my mouth, and then paste it onto the area in which the gum had receded. I'm usually pretty good with oral surgery, but this one was crazy. After the operation, I guess since there's so much cutting going on, there was a ton of bleeding, which really lasted until the next morning. The pain wasn't bad, but it was definitely worse than my oral surgeries in the past. Anyway, aside from the pain, it was an interesting experience. It made me think of how amazing medicine is... that we're actually able to cut and paste tissue and have your body accept it as if it were always there. |
