I went out to eat with Cynan last night at 3am because he was hungry and I hadn't eaten dinner yet. On the way home, there were no cars on the road of course, so I was going through Grant road at 60 MPH. I was slowing down for a stoplight last night when I saw a car following me. When the light turned green, the car behind me turned the flashing lights on, so I pulled over. I just got a ticket this summer, so another one would be terrible for my driving record. He asked me where I was coming from and I told him "around Cupertino."
Cop: What were you doing in Cupertino?
Me: Just eating.
Cop: Eating all night?
Me: I went out about an hour ago to eat, and now I'm coming back.
Cop: Have you been drinking?
Me: No
Cop: Well the reason I pulled you over is because you were going 50 MPH. Do you know the speed limit here?
Me: 35
Cop: Yes. Actually that's what it was until they lowered it to 25 recently.

And then he did the whole "look at my finger" bit to see how my eyes move. When he concluded that I hadn't been drinking, he asked me "where do you live?" I told him, "around the corner," after which he just told me to be safe, observe the speed limit, and go home. *WHEW*

wow! that's an impressive story. hmm...i've never had much of a run-in w/ cops, but i've witnessed one.

spring 2002 - friends and i drove back to sf from la. near the end of the freeway, we split up so i followed this one guy home since we live near each other. we were driving about 50mph down a 35mph street, which is pretty normal. it was really really early, the sun wasn't quite out yet, and there were no cars on that street so we thought there's no problem. all of a sudden, a cop car screeched out into the intersection from our right and pulled him over immediately. i was about a block behind them when i saw that happen. trying not to make the situation worse, i made a right around the next corner after passing the two cars.

then i got a call from the guy to go back to him so i drove back and parked at the corner. by that time, the cop had already checked his driver's license and registration. i got there in time to see the guy against the cop car and with his hands behind his back. then the cop cuffed him!! i didn't know what to do so i just stood a few feet away and watched the whole thing happen. the cop shoved the guy into the back of the cop car. while the cop was scribbling something onto his notepad, the guy was pleading his case and crying Cry ! that's the saddest thing i've ever seen, and the cop's a meanie too. i carefully got closer to the cop car so i could hear what the guy was trying to tell me, and the cop yelled at me, "what do you think you're doing? back away from the car!"

so why did all of that happen? the cop pulled him over for speeding, but when he looked up his record, he saw that the guy was driving w/ a suspended license Super shocked . i mean, his license practically rolled into suspension as we got back into the city. why was his license suspended? *shrug* that's a whole other story....
